An introductory course on the basics of using a digital SLR camera combined with the basics of good photography. Through lectures, field trips and critiques, we will learn how the digital camera works, and how to get the best images from it. We will cover basic image manipulation in Photoshop and how to perfect your images once they have been taken. We will also cover basic concepts in photography such as proper exposure and good composition. A great first course in how to make fantastic digital photographs.

Basic Digital SLR Photography One-Week Intensive Course Outline
Prerequisite: Digital SLR Camera, Tripod and Basic Computer Skills

Basic Photography (Film) Course Outline
Prerequisite:  None. 35mm SLR camera & Tripod is required
Hours/Cost:  30 hrs. 10 sessions $335

This hands-on course introduces the student to the exciting world of photography. The basic functions of a 35mm camera are emphasized, including some black and white darkroom techniques. Manual operations such as f-stop, shutter speed, exposure and focusing are all covered. Through studio workshops, field trips, lectures and critiques, students learn how to use their camera to capture images that they will be proud of.

Summer Teen Photography Course Outline
Prerequisite: None. SLR camera and tripod are required.
Hours/Cost: 30 hrs. 10 sessions $370

This course will introduce students to photography and the basic’s of using a digital SLR camera. Through discussions, field trips, critiques and workshops, students will learn how to control exposure and maximize the effects of aperture and shutter speed to create great images. We will also explore light, composition and alternative processes, as well as take a closer look at portraiture. Finally, we will cover some basic post production software techniques and discuss image output. The class will wrap up with each student presenting a small body of images for presentation and peer review.
